Just wanted to provide a shout-out to Black Earth Compost for continuing to be a good composting service over the years. I started in early 2022, and continue to be a customer in 2024.

First thing you do after signing up is pick up your bin/starter kit, which for me was from a house in Franklin (another Black Earth Compost user). I chose the 13 gallon bin, and it's great for my purposes. I fill it from a smaller bin in my kitchen, and just take the smaller bags to the bin as they fill up. The pickup every 2 weeks is perfectly reasonable for me; I usually have 4 bags in there by then, and we cook a good amount. You get an email reminder for your pick up the night before too, so you don't miss it!

I've had no problems with pests or critters since having the compost bin outside (besides some flies in summer, but nothing worse than a trash bin already has). Not too smelly, especially if you fill little bags inside, then toss them into the clean bin. It's actually improved the smell of my regular trash, since I don't put food in there anymore!

Also, cost for the service is equal to streaming Netflix, so not bad on the wallet either. And as more people sign up in town, the price will drop more.

Overall I'd highly recommend this service to folks interested in composting, but who don't want to manage their own compost pile.
